Roles - Toastmaster
The Toastmaster creates an atmosphere of interest, expectation and
receptivity as the host and conductor of the meeting. Introductions and
transitions of the meeting are a key responsibility for the Toastmaster.
You set the mood and introduce the theme of the day.
This is considered a major role and it will not be given to anyone who has
been a member less than 4 weeks.
Responsibilities - Prior to the Meeting:
- Select the theme for the meeting (used at the beginning of the meeting)
and thought/quote for the day (used at the end of the meeting).
- Verify member roles
- Create the Agenda. You can find this posted on the Lawson Thrill Speakers
Yahoo group server.
- Fill in each section with the person filling the role. Include the title of
the speeches, the manual speech number, amount of time needed for the
speaker, and word of the day. Adjust the times for each portion of the
meeting according to the time needed.
- Gather/create introductions for the General Evaluator, Speakers,
and Topic Master
Responsibilities - During the Meeting:
- Sit near the front of the room
- Check with the other team members for any last minute changes
- Lead the meeting with sincerity, energy and decisiveness.
Introduce the theme for the day.
- Lead the applause – this is your responsibility to start and
end the applause
- Never leave the lectern unattended. Make sure to shake
the hand of the member approaching the lectern.
- Introduce the General Evaluator (they will introduce the
evaluation team)
- Introduce the Speakers
- Introduce the Topic Master
- Reintroduce the General Evaluator
- Give the "final thought" for the day
- Adjourn the meeting
